Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology
- Watson et al. Molecular Biology of the Gene, 5th ed.
- Lots of exemplars available in the university library. The author's name also seems impressive.
- TYMRI loengumaterjalid
- Griffiths et al An Introduction to Genetic Analysis
- T. Maimets - Molekulaarne rakubioloogia
- The only almost up-to-date book in estonian
- A nice way for a beginner to get the required biological background quickly is to start from some Wikipedia article on the topic and do a depth-first or breadth-first traversal of all the links on related subjects from there. Takes about 4-5 hours and is rather enlightening.
Bioinformatics
- Berrar, Dubitzky. A Practical Approach to Microarray Data Analysis
- A collection of articles covering different aspects of microarray data analysis. Reads easily, nice introduction to the topic.
- Brief conspect: here
- Durbin, Eddy, Krogh, Michison. Biological Sequence Analysis
- The one and only book on sequence analysis - although a couple years old, it covers almost all methods of interest for sequence analysis.
- Evan W. Steeg: Data Mining for systems Biology (white paper, see attached files)
- MIT Computational Biology Course (Manolis Kellis + Piotr Indyk)
- 2can Bioinformatics Educational Resource
- EBI maintained introductory materials
Statistics
- ?
Machine Learning, Pattern Analysis
- MTAT.03.186 Neurovõrgud
- Lecture slides & practice session materials of a 4 AP course. Should be a good starting point (especially the practicals). Provides some further references and links.
- Kernel Methods for Pattern Analysis
- A nice reference on the topic.
- Available from Meelis & probably from MT library.
- Pascal Network Virtual Training Playground.
- A collection of videos from different international workshops and seminars on machine learning, pattern analysis and statistics.
